Jacob Buscher, 20, was born on December 10, 1992 to Sonya Martinez and Steve Buscher in Topeka KS. Jacob died Saturday, December 15, 2012, as a result of an auto accident. Jake attended Randolph Elementary, Topeka, through the 2nd grade, then moved to Ozawkie, where he attended Oskaloosa Public Schools graduating in 2011 from Oskaloosa High School. Jake discovered football, the passion of his life, in the 3rd grade. He played on numerous youth tackle football leagues, as well as, the Oskaloosa Bears football teams throughout junior high and high school. His eighth grade year the team won the state championship. Jake was a talented and dedicated player. He led in tackles in his high school league during his junior year and participated with the Oskie Bears in the state finals as a senior. Jacob joined the Kansas Air National Guard, 184th Intelligence Wing at McConnell Air Force Base on January 19, 2012. He participated in monthly drills in Salina KS training as a Tactic Air Control Party (TACP), a physically difficult and demanding career for which few qualify. A relentless athlete, Jacob worked out daily running many miles and completing extreme training programs such as the P90X to maintain the physical qualifications required of a TACP. Jacob was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting and shooting, including trips to western Kansas to hunt pheasant. In the summers, he and his friends fished and camped around Perry Lake running fishing lines late into the night. Jacob was the all-American young man, a hero admired by his nephews, family and friends. Jake was preceded in death by his mother, Sonya Martinez when he was twelve and his grandmother, Karen Buscher. His memory and life will be forever cherished by his father Steve Buscher; step-mother Elaine; step-brother Miles Frye, Ozawkie; grandfather Robert Buscher, Topeka; aunt Lori Fieger (Jeff), Topeka; cousin Jessie Kealy, Meriden; grandmother Nadine Martinez; uncle Richard Martinez; nephews Devin & Caden Martinez, all of Topeka. Many people loved and cared for Jacob including Courtney Staus, his beautiful high school sweetheart, and Jake s adopted family, Greg, Julie and T-Bone Hopkins, Ozawkie. Jacob was the joy, heart and hope of his family and there are no words to express our loss. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 21 at 1:00 p.m. at the Seaman Congregational Church, 2036 NW Taylor, Topeka KS. Jacob will lie in state from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for visitation by family and friends. Jacob would prefer you dress casual, including jeans, please. Burial will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery at NW 35th and Menoken Road.
