Phyllis Wanda Lippe Blevins died suddenly of natural causes in Topeka, Kansas on Sunday, February 3, 2013. Services will be held on Thursday, February 7th at 11 a.m. at Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 North Kansas Ave. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Gardens in Topeka. Phyllis was born to John Frederick Lippe and Doris Woodruff Lippe in Morganville, KS on September 12, 1932. On April 3rd, 1954 she married Alfred F. Blevins (1928-2008) in Topeka, Kansas. They had been married 54 years at the time of Alf's death on June 21, 2008. To Phyllis and Alf, four children were born, Michael, Zack, Tom and Beth. Phyllis graduated from Robinson (KS) High School in 1950, attended Huntington (IN) College, Stormont-Vail Hospital Nursing School, Washburn University (B.S., 1966) and the University of Kansas (M.A. 1986). Phyllis was a classroom and learning disabilities educator in the Washburn Rural School District from 1969 to 1986, and began and operated, with her husband, a new SaraCare (home care services) franchise in Topeka from 1986 to 1992. During her lifetime, Phyllis was an active member of several faith communities, including: as a youth and young parent, United Brethren Churches throughout North Central and NE Kansas (Including the United Brethren Church in West Topeka that she and Alfred helped organize and grow), New Covenant Church (Central Park) and the Evangelical Covenant Church in Topeka. In 1992, Phyllis and Alf moved to the lake in Council Grove, KS. Phyllis remained in Council Grove after Alfred's death and moved in 2012 to join family in McPherson (KS). Phyllis was very active and involved in her extended families and communities. She loved entertaining and treating her children, grandchildren and nephews and nieces, she had a green thumb-especially with her flowering plants (geraniums especially), cooking for family, travelling, bridge, Bible studies, playing golf with Alf, reading, writing letters, making phone calls, sewing and quilting, going to the casino with Alf, volunteering countless hours at local museums, libraries, historical societies, children's homes, thrift stores, and community and senior centers. Her outgoing, enthusiastic personality, and her intelligence, was important to the life of her family and friends and involvements and was a delight that will long be remembered. She is survived by children Michael (Decorah, IA), Zack (Topeka), Tom (Ann Arbor, MI), and Beth (Larry) Blevins Briggs (McPherson, KS), grandchildren Amy Cameron (Eric) of Pasadena, CA; Kelly (David) of Overland Park, KS; Wendy Gray (Richard) of Richfield, MN; Travis Briggs, McPherson,KS; Emily Briggs of Kansas City, MO, Nathan Abernathy (Topeka); great-grandson Isaac Cameron, brothers Emmett (Marj) Lippe of (Michigan) and Gary (Carol) Lippe (Dubuque, Iowa), sister Avis (Keith) Chartier of Toepka, KS; and a large and beloved extended family Phyllis Wanda Lippe Blevins
