Dr. Ralph Eugene Smith Dr. Ralph Eugene Smith passed away at his home in Chandler, AZ on March 12, 2014 of cancer. He was born on November 6, 1941 to Ralph Bliss Smith and Margaret Seitz Smith in Excelsior Springs, MO. He graduated from Rozell High School in 1959 and attended Hutchinson Junior College. He then received his BA from Washburn University and earned both his Master s degree and PhD from the University of Kansas. While at Washburn he played football and joined the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. On July 25, 1964 me married Mary Starbuck of Topeka, KS. They moved to Tempe, AZ in 1970 and Ralph began his lifelong career as a Professor of Accounting at Arizona State University. He was a loving husband, father and Boppa. He loved traveling with Mary, cheering on the KU Jayhawks and watching his grandchildren play their various sports. He is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; son, Tucker (Michele) Smith of Roswell, GA; daughter, Allison (Clint) Beauer of Chandler, AZ; and grandchildren, Hunter and Caden Smith of Roswell, GA and Peyton and Maggie Beauer of Chandler, AZ. He is also survived by his uncle, Rodney (Barbara) Seitz; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Starbuck; and brother-in-law, Larry Starbuck, all of Topeka. Also surviving him are his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike (Judy) Starbuck of Scottsdale, AZ. Services took place on March 17th a King of Glory Lutheran Church in Tempe.
