Ernest Rainwater, 88, of Elkhorn Road in Knifley, Ky., died at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at Campbellsville Retirement Home in Campbellsville after several months illness.
Son of the late Ras and Lillian Ford Rainwater, he was born Oct. 24, 1923, in the Smith Ridge community in Taylor County.
He was married to Agnes Perkins Rainwater on June 29, 1946. She survives.
He was a member of Yuma Baptist Church, a U.S. Air Corps veteran of World War II
and was a retired farmer in the Knifley community.
Survivors also include a son, Wendell Rainwater of Knifley; a daughter, Glenda Barlow and her husband, Clark, of Tampa, Fla.; two brothers, J.D. Rainwater and William Rainwater of Campbellsville; three sisters, Lula Mae Bell, Helen Sharp and her husband, Cecil, and Barbara Skaggs and her husband, Donald, all of Campbellsville; two granddaughters, Allison Elizabeth Campbell and her husband, Mark, and Miranda Lynn Conley and her husband, Patrick; five great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Walter Harold Perkins and his wife, Margaret, of Campbellsville.
He was also preceded in death by his only grandson, Shannon Rainwater, on July 15, 2000; and siblings Gordon Earl Rainwater, Kenneth Rainwater, Rosaline Sprowles and Madeline Cave.
Funeral was Saturday, Sept. 22, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia, Ky. Bro. Hugh Withers officiated.
Interment was in Chapel Cemetery in Knifley.
