Merle Wise, 90, of Campbellsville, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, in Campbellsville.
Son of the late Forrest Wise Sr. and Ruby Childs Wise, he was born July 24, 1922, in Taylor County.
He professed faith in Christ and was a member of South Campbellsville Baptist Church, where he was a deacon for many years.
He was a member of Andy Bowen Masonic Lodge and Gideons International for many years.
He was a World War II
veteran, having served in the United States Army
. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars
, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
He was a self-employed businessman in Campbellsville for 70 years.
He married Juanita Sullivan on April 30, 1949. She survives.
Survivors also include three sons, Forrest W. Wise and his wife, Judy, of Cave City, Ky., Mark Wise and his wife, Becky, and Brad Wise and his wife, Angie, all of Campbellsville; three daughters, Dianna Mueller and her husband, Chris, of Munfordville, Ky., Denise Wise of Campbellsville and Dawn Wise of Lexington, Ky.; 14 grandchildren, Beth Gaines, Brian Wise, Rob Wright, Russ Wright, Allison Frazier, Chris Wise, Lindsey Wise, Michael Wise, Dylan Wise, Tiffany Kane, Justin Wise, Connor Wise, Jessica Huntt and Amanda Mueller; 13 great-grandchildren, Anderson Wise, Sean Frazier, Emily Frazier, Johnathan Wright, Julia Wright, Austin Wright, Ashley Wright, Nicholas Huntt, Katelyn Huntt, Ellie Huntt, Raylee Mueller, Ashton Adams and Ally Adams; a brother, Carl Ray Wise and his wife, Mildred, of Lexington; two sisters, Anna Lee Johns of Campbellsville and Beulah Smothers of Keenansville, Fla.; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Jackson Maxwell Gaines, two brothers, Norman Bradley Wise and Forrest Wise Jr.; and a sister, Doris Jean Magers.
Funeral was Sunday, Feb. 17 at South Campbellsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Shaun Caudill officiated.
Burial was in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.
Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville was in charge of arrangements.
