Robert S. Clark

Robert S. Clark, 81, of Campbellsville, died at 9 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2013, in Campbellsville.
Son of the late Albert Samuel Clark and Lillie Mae Gray Clark Berry, he was born Dec. 12, 1931, in Shelby County, Ky.
He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church.
He was a lifelong minister and educator, having pastored two churches in Tennessee and serving as director of missions for Taylor County Baptist Association from 1999 to 2008.
His educational background included a bachelor's degree from Georgetown College in 1953 and a theology degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He received a Master of Arts degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a Rank I and a doctorate in educational administration from Vanderbilt University. He also attended Tulane University for graduate work.
He taught history and social services from 1966 to 1976 at Campbellsville University and served as vice president of academic affairs from 1976 to 1988, totaling 32 years of service.
He believed in an individual's responsibility to his community. He was an active member of Campbellsville Baptist Church, a founding member of Campbellsville Kiwanis Club and a member of Clay Hill Memorial Forest Board. He was a member of the Kentucky Filson Club, Taylor County Historical Society and a speaker for the Kentucky Humanities Council, where he was recognized for his knowledge of the lives of Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson. He was also a member of MENSA.
His selfless community service was rewarded by him being named as the 2006 Taylor County Man of the Year by the Central Kentucky News-Journal and being given the prestigious Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award for Christian Servant Leadership by Campbellsville University in 2007.
He married his loving wife, Lillian Bruner Clark, on Dec. 18, 1948. She survives.
Survivors also include three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Larry Blanton of Paoli, Ind., Renee and Marc Kessler of Greensburg, Ky., and Beverly and Gerald Manley of Waddy, Ky.; a son, Robert S. Clark Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Campbellsville; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jack Breniser of South Bend, Ind.; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Clark; and a great-grandson.
Funeral was Monday, April 7, at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville. Drs. James Jones and Robert Doty officiated.
Burial was in Brookside Cemetery.
