Ruben "Hoover" Gaskins, age 91, of Campbellsville, formerly of the Ella Community in Adair County, passed away Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at 4:42 p.m. at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville.
He was born on March 13, 1926, in Kokomo, Indiana.
The son of the late Alvin and Mary Ann Williams Gaskins, he was preceded in death by his wife Martha Opal Hubbard Gaskins on Oct. 1, 2014; two brothers, James Ray Gaskins and Paul Gaskins; and two sisters, Inis Stroup & Unema Roberts.
He is survived by one son, Doug (Kim) Gaskins of Louisville; sisters, Opal Temple of Russiaville, Indiana and Geneva Workman of Louisville; one grandson, Conner Gaskins; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He attended the New Hope Separate Baptist Church, he retired from Ingersoll Rand in Campbellsville, he was a Veteran of World War II serving his country in the U.S. Army, was a Paratrooper in 82nd Airborne, he enjoyed singing & playing guitar with family & friends, and was an avid Cincinnati Reds Fan.
Funeral service was Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, at 11a.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Clergy officiating Bro. David Coffey. Interment was in Haven Hill Cemetery with full military honors presented by
the Columbia VFW Post 6097.
Expressions of sympathy are suggested in the form of Gideon Bibles.
Pallbearers were Kenny Gaskins, Terry Roberts, Ruben Temple, Tony Grant, Dale Gaskins, Mike Reynolds, Conner Gaskins & Mark Rowe.
Honorary Pallbearers were Susan Breeding, Tommy Bailey, Phyllis Gaskins & Joan Gaskins.
