Otha Lee VanArsdale, 98, of Franklin, Ky., formerly of Green County, Ky., died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Greenwood Nursing and Rehab in Bowling Green, Ky.
Son of the late Robert Lee VanArsdale and Roye Taylor VanArsdale, he was born on July 9, 1914, in Green County.
He was a retired farmer, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church was his church home. In his early years, he had the privilege of serving as deacon at Greasy Creek Baptist Church for 30 years and South Greensburg Baptist Church for 10 years. He was a long time member of Greensburg Masonic Lodge #54 F&AM. Special love for his family, dear friends and the great outdoors gave him much joy throughout his 98 years.
He married his loving wife, Laverne Blakeman VanArsdale, on Feb. 7, 1940. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Dennye VanArsdale and his wife, Elizabeth, of Bowling Green; three grandchildren, Dr. Nancy V. Morris and her husband, Robb, of London, Ky., Susan Jackson and her husband, Gregory, of Bowling Green and Jeff VanArsdale and his wife, Melissa, of Louisville, Ky.; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Morris and Alexandra Morris of London, Hannah Jackson of Bowling Green and Wyatt VanArsdale of Louisville; several nieces, nephews and many loyal friends; and a special caregiver, Nancy Combow of Franklin, Ky.
He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Eugene VanArsdale, Luther VanArsdale, Carl VanArsdale, Cecil VanArsdale and Lester VanArsdale; and four sisters, Edna VanArsdale, Ollie Neagle, Cecilia Morgan and an infant sister, Georgia VanArsdale.
Visitation is after 11:30 a.m. EST on Saturday, Jan. 5, at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg until the funeral at 2 p.m. Joseph Wilcoxson will officiate.
