Delbert Dean Pratt was born March 4, 1931 in New Market, Iowa, the son of Dwight Myron and Bernice Agatha (Cunningham) Pratt. He passed away on Monday evening, March 14, 2011 at the Clarinda Regional Health Center at the age of 80 years and 10 days.
Delbert grew up in New Market and graduated from New Market High School in 1949. After high school, Delbert served in the United States Air Force. Delbert worked as a truck driver most of his life. He also farmed and had worked for the Iowa Highway Patrol. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and had attended the New Market Methodist Church. He loved to hunt, fish and read.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step mothers, Susan Nevada and Ruth Pauline Pratt; his sister, Nancy Kirsch; brother-in-law, Kenneth Davison; an uncle, Chester Pratt; an aunt, Bonnie Karg; son-in-law, Gary Farmer and a niece, Laura Wymore.
Survivors include his four daughters, Deanna Harris and her husband Lanny of Clarinda, Iowa, Denise Pierce and her husband Charles of Jefferson City, Missouri, Debra Farmer and Dave Woodyard of Clarinda, Iowa, Jacqueline Moore of Savannah, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Austin Harris of Des Moines, Iowa, Mikayla Harris of Clarinda, Iowa, Lauren Pierce of Columbia, Missouri, William Pierce of Jefferson City, Missouri, Chelsie Farmer of Clarinda, Iowa, Lucas Farmer of Red Oak, Iowa, Natascha Degase of Savannah, Missouri, Austin Brown of Ft. Bliss, Texas; eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Beverly Davison of Clarinda, Iowa, Sue Strough and her husband David of Gravity, Iowa, Ethel Leek and her husband Dennis of Bolivar, Missouri; brother-in-law, Glen Kirsch and his wife Julie of Clarinda, Iowa, along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Hillside Missionary Church in Clarinda with Rev. Dan Wiebesiek officiating. Private family burial was held at Memory Cemetery at New Market with military honors accorded by the American Legion Sergy Post #98 of Clarinda. Memorials were suggested to Clarinda EMS.
