John A. Clark
Clinton
John A. Clark, 32, passed away suddenly at home in New Orleans, LA. His service will be Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Bolton, MS. Visitation will be at 12:00 p.m. with the service at 1:00 p.m. and burial following in Clinton Cemetery. John attended Clinton schools where he found the friends that would be his brothers and remain with him through the rest of his life. While at Clinton, John also excelled at Debate, played Little League, Pony League and Sr. League baseball. One of his favorite activities, though, was the activity "Spotlight" through the Cove and the neighborhood where so many of them lived.
While still in high school, John enlisted in the Mississippi Army National Guard, doing his basic training between his junior and senior years of high school at Fort Sill, OK. He was proud and honored to have served almost 8 years in the service, with his proudest duty station being the 2D BN, 20th SFG, Grenada, MS. While serving with the Special Forces, Mississippi Guard, he was honored to have been ordered to Active Duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and Mobilization, Non-Commissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon and the Parachutist Badge. John graduated from the University of Mississippi, in 2003, majoring in Criminology, where he became an ardent Rebel and remained a staunch and vocal supporter. Football Saturdays would find him either watching the games or texting friends and family while at work, demanding score updates. He moved to New Orleans, LA, about 2004. He loved the city and the people, and enjoyed several years of bartending in different locations in the Quarter. He decided he needed a change and entered a nursing program at Tulane, graduating in December, 2012. He began working at Kenner Hospital - Oschner in January. John is survived by his father, Charles S. "Sam" Clark; his mother, Carrie Fox-Clark; and 2 his sisters and their spouses, Jennifer Clark Pague and Thomas, Schertz, Tx; and Amy C. Clark Wetzel and Brent, Hattiesburg, MS; and his nephew, William Joseph Pague. John is also survived by his grandparents, Fred and Ann Clark of Canton, MS; and John and Cameron Fox of Clinton, MS; his aunts and uncles, Ben Clark and Betsy of Madison; Laura Clark and Matt Lemley of Brandon, Tom and Jackie Clark of McComb; John Fox of Iowa; Wm. Martin Fox and Sherry of Clinton; MS, Ellen Fox of Texas; Trey and Debra Smith of Flowood; Vicki Smith and Peter Generelly of Palmyra, VA; Wendy Smith of San Francisco, CA; and David and Laura Smith of Dallas, TX. He also has many loving cousins scattered across the country. Finally, but by far not the least of his loves and joys in life were his friends and running buddies. Among the multitudes of friends made and kept through the years, this particular group was were his "brothers of the heart" and were with him though everything. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Clark, Kevin Gentry, Brian Bunstein, Tony Case, Jason Gray, Matthew Pope, Todd Hopton, and Dan Roberts. His family would like to extend their gratitude and love to his "brothers" and many friends who have visited and contacted them over the last week. Please know that you all are a major source of strength for us at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO BOX 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
