Conner, Jean - Brandon  
Jean K. Conner Brandon Jean Conner, 84, of Brandon, MS passed away peacefully Thanksgiving morning, November 27, 2014, at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon. Visitation will be held at 12 noon Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Services will follow at 2 pm Sunday at the funeral home with burial at Crestview Memorial Gardens. Jean was born December 9, 1929 in Electric Mills, Mississippi. She was married to John Conner for 65 years and they had four children. To her family she was "GG" and known as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Jean was a member of Brandon First United Methodist Church for 55 years and anyone who stood close to her in church on Sunday mornings was in awe of her beautiful singing voice. She was a true homemaker and avid follower of Mississippi State University Sports, particularly football and baseball. Jean is survived by her husband, John Conner; sister, Carol Valentine of Round Rock, Texas; daughter, Barbara Tigrett (David) of Brentwood TN; son, Mike Conner (Sherri) of Brandon, MS; daughter, Cathy Graves (David) of Tunica, MS and son, Bill Conner (Memrie) of Brandon, MS. She had 12 grandchildren, Christy Huff (Bobby), LCRD Matt Tigrett (Marci), Amy Thorpe (Todd), Brad Conner, Jessie McNeil (Cole), Sarah Conner, Michael Conner, Katy Graves, John David Graves, Chris Graves (Haley), Whitt Conner and Josh Conner along with 12 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Brandon First United Methodist Church, Brandon, MS to the Family Life Building Fund. The family wishes to thank Jean's many friends for their love and kindness, along with Dr. Galen Poole and the medical professionals at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital for their compassionate care. Cowart, Franz L. - Brandon  
Franz L. Cowart Brandon, MS Mr. Franz L. Cowart, 84 went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 27, 2014. Visitation is 10 am until 11 am Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Oakdale Baptist Church in Brandon, MS. Services are 11 am Saturday at Oakdale Baptist Church with burial to follow in Lakeland Place Garden Park Cemetery. Ott & Lee Funeral Home, Brandon, MS is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Cowart was born on May 25, 1930 in Monroe County, MS to the late Wiley Leon and Priscilla Cox Cowart. He received a B.S. Degree from Mississippi State University. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. For 41 years he worked for Michael Baker, Jr. Inc. and retired as Senior Vice President. He was a Deacon at Oakdale Baptist Church. Mr. Cowart was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Ethel Cowart; his brothers, Eugene Cowart, Herbert Cowart and Rubel Cowart; and his sisters, Tula Mae Carter and Lillian Sumerford. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dean Everett Cowart of Brandon; daughter, Pamela Irvin (Douglas) of Cincinnati, Ohio; sons, Franz Larry Cowart (Ruth) of Harrisville, MS and Joe Marlin Cowart (Dallas)of Puckett, MS; grandchildren, Douglas Courtney Irvin (Elizabeth), Shane Adison Irvin (Molly), Jenny Cowart, T. J. Cowart, Shelby Cowart, and Lindsey Cowart; great grandchildren, Gavin Patrick Irvin and Kennedy Cowart. Dacus, Mary Jo - Canton  
Mary Jo Dacus Canton Mary Jo Dacus, of Canton, MS, passed away Nov. 24, 2014 at her home in Canton, MS at the age of 89. She was married to Harold E. Dacus, Sr. for more than 63 years. They were residents of Canton since 1954. Mary Jo was born in Oakland, KY. She is the daughter of Rev. Carl Joseph and Ruth Neelly Olander. Mary Jo attended Morgan City High School, Morgan City, MS, and was a graduate of Blue Mountain College. Mrs. Dacus was a member of First Baptist Church of Canton, where she was active with the Women's Missionary Union. She was a former school teacher and taught piano lessons for many years. Mrs. Dacus was a member of the Canton Music Study Club and very active with the Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs. She played the piano at Calvary Baptist Church of Canton, MS, since its early years as a mission church of First Baptist of Canton. She also volunteered at the Madison County Nursing Home for more than 40 years, where she played the piano and led devotionals twice a week. Mrs. Dacus was preceded in death by her husband Harold Dacus, native of Kilmichael, MS; her parents Rev. and Mrs. C. J. Olander; two brothers Carl John Olander, Sr. of Meridian, MS, and Robert Benjamin Olander, of Pelahatchie, MS. Survivors include: brother, Daniel Fisher Olander, of Chevy Chase, MD; daughter Ruth Ellen Polito (husband Paul), of Manchester, NJ; son Edward Dacus (wife Viola), of Clinton, MS; daughter Carla Yeates (husband Ron), of Canton, MS; son Paul Dacus (wife Susan), of Clarksville, TN; son Ben Dacus of Richmond, VA. Mrs. Dacus found joy in her 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dacus expressed gratitude to her children who cared for her and made it possible to remain in her home during her illness. The children wish to thank neighbors, friend and family for their outpouring of love and support through cards, phone calls and many meals. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 28 from 5-7:00 pm at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton. The Funeral Service will be at First Baptist Church, Canton, on Saturday, Nov. 29, 11:00 am, followed by a burial service in the Canton Cemetery. Dalton, Doris - Lubbock, Tx  
Doris R. Dalton Lubbock, TX Doris Ray Dalton, 79, passed away Monday, November 24, 2014 in Lubbock, TX at Covenant Hospital Palliative Care. A proud native of Belzoni, MS, she was a retired bookkeeper and seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husband, LJ "Jack" Dalton; her parents, Marion "Peck" Ray and Orie Haven Ray; and her grandson, Andrew Dalton. She is survived by her daughter, Jacque Dalton of Lubbock, TX; son, Bob Dalton (Tricia) of Pearl, MS; brother, Richard Ray of Brandon, MS; sister, Katherine McGee (Harry) of Pittsboro, NC; and sister Margie "Cookie" Fancher of Fairhope, AL. Services will be held on Saturday, November 29,2014 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Belzoni, MS with Brother George Johnston and Brother Richard Wiman officating. Visitation will be Friday, November 28th from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Mortimer Funeral Home in Belzoni, MS.
