Janell Reeves Slay, 87, of The Woodlands, Texas went home to be with our Lord and Savior on December 1, 2012. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Griffith Memorial Baptist Church in Jackson, MS at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 10. A service celebrating Nell's life will follow at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Bruce Cappleman will officiate. Burial will take place at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Janell, daughter of William Fermon Reeves and Vera Edwards Reeves, was a native of Walnut Grove, Mississippi. She attended East Central College and was a graduate of Walnut Grove High School. She retired from the Mississippi State Board of Health in 1986 after 30+ years of service.

Janell, widow to Clyde Lee Slay, shared 58 years of marriage before he passed away in 2006. As a married couple they lived in Jackson, MS for 48 years and were members of Griffith Memorial Baptist Church. In 1996 she and Clyde moved to Slidell, Louisiana to be near their only child, Suzanne Millet and her husband Dennis Millet, as well as three grandchildren. At that time they became members of First Baptist Church Slidell. In 1998 the Slays and Millets combined households and moved to The Woodlands, Texas, where she resided for 14 years. She and Clyde were active members of Crossroads Baptist Church.

As a young adult she participated in basketball, water skiing, and tennis. While in Jackson Janell enjoyed entertaining people in her home, organizing parties and events for both the Garden Ridge neighborhood and ladies groups within the church. She was a leader of her WMU group at Griffith Memorial Baptist. Her love for missions was evident as she participated in projects to help share the gospel both at home and in distant lands. She was secretary for quite some time to her Bible Study class that met on Sundays at Crossroads Baptist. She enjoyed traveling and participating in activities with the senior adult group at her church. As a lover of basketball she became an avid Houston Rockets fan after moving to the greater Houston area Most of all she enjoyed her role as grandmother to three grandchildren who love her dearly.

Survivors include daughter, Suzanne Millet, and son-in-law Dennis. Three grandchildren, Andrew Millet, Catherine Millet, Christine Millet Frazier, great grandson Hunter Frazier, and sister Anne Rodgers of The Woodlands, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, Janell's family prefer you make memorial contributions to Crossroads Baptist Church Building Fund, 5000 College Park Drive, Conroe, TX 77384.
