John Neville Allen, 69, died of heart failure on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Jaquith Nursing Home near Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation will be held at Northminster Baptist Church in Jackson from 4:30-6:00 pm on Friday. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm Saturday at Lake Park Cemetery in Laurel.

John was born on December 8, 1942, the oldest of four children. Raised in Laurel, he graduated from George S. Gardner High School. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Mississippi and went on to attend law school there.

Following his studies, John moved to Jackson where he lived most of his adult life. He held positions with several national accounting firms and later served as a field auditor with the Mississippi State Tax Commission. John was blessed with a brilliant mind, and he left this world with a gentle spirit and love for his family.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Hettie Hamilton Allen and Neville Gray Allen; sisters, Elizabeth Gray Allen and Sarah Rebecca Allen Raggio.

He is survived by his brother, David Bennett Allen and his wife, Cheryl; two nieces, Reverend Courtney Elizabeth Allen and Camille Allen Snyder; and two nephews, Dr. Christopher Hamilton Raggio and Neil Gray Raggio.

John's family expresses deep gratitude for the excellent care provided by the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Mississippi State Hospital and Jaquith Nursing Home. Memorials may be sent to Friends of MS State Hospital, P.O. Box 75, Whitfield, MS, 39193.
