Buck Randall


George Marvin (Buck) Randall, 73, died Sunday, November 17, 2013 of heart failure at his home. A service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland. Visitation will be from 6:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the funeral home and will resume at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. A private burial service will be held at a later date. Buck was born on May 10, 1940 in Carroll County and was reared in Greenwood. Buck graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor's degree. While at Ole Miss, he played fullback and safety on the Rebel football teams from 1960-1963. He played in both the Sugar and Cotton bowls. The 1962 team is the only unbeaten and untied team in Ole Miss history. Prior to attending Ole Miss, Buck was a five sport lettermen at Greenwood High School, twice being named to the All Big 8 football team including his senior year when he was named Co-Captain. He was the Co-Captain of the 1959 Greenwood high school football team and later voted MVP. He was also selected to play in the High School All Star game his senior year for the North squad. He excelled at all sports which included football, baseball, basketball, track and tennis. After Ole Miss, Buck coached at several schools including Durant, Canton, Callaway and Rankin Academy. He eventually worked for Trustmark Bank from where he retired. Throughout his life, Buck enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as coaching recreational football and baseball. He continued to follow Ole Miss athletics and was a member of the M club and the alumni association for many years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved to spend time with his grandchildren. His grandchildren brought him his greatest joy and he often attended their activities. Buck enjoyed seeing his old teammates and reminiscing about earlier days. Buck is survived by his wife Sandra of 46 years; son Buck Randall Jr.; son Rafe Randall; daughter Courtney Randall; grandchildren Jeremy, Brogan and Ella Randall; brothers Jim and Billy Randall; Sister Mary Marshall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
