Arthur L. Hodge Obituary
Arthur L. Hodge Sara Maxine Hodge

Arthur Lamar Hodge, 89, and his wife Sara Maxine Hodge, 85, passed away on June 6, 2013, in their home in Clinton, MS. Married for 62 years, they never had to live in a world without each other.

Mr. Hodge was born on October 14, 1923, and grew up in Bolton, MS. He worked on his family's farm until joining the Navy, where he served in WWII on the USS Denver. After leaving the Navy, he worked in various positions, including that of an electrician. Mr. Hodge was a hard worker, and therefore never truly retired. He was happiest when he was busy working in his garden, cutting his neighbors' grass, working on his latest project, or spending time with his family. He will forever be remembered as a devoted and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Mrs. Hodge was born on October 5, 1927, and grew up in Scooba, MS. A graduate of East Mississippi Junior College, she retired from Packard Electric after 17 years of service, an accomplishment of which she was very proud. After retirement she spent her time caring for her mother, Sallie McCaskill, until her passing at the age of 100. Mrs. Hodge continued to care for the elderly, sitting with them in their homes and driving her neighbors to the grocery store, until her health no longer allowed her to do so. She will forever be remembered for her generosity and devotion as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Mr. and Mrs. Hodge were long-time members of Trinity Bible Church in Florence, MS, and will be remembered for their dedicated service to God and their church family. After church they enjoyed spending time with family as they shared a meal lovingly prepared by Mrs. Hodge.

The couple also enjoyed traveling with family, making their way to places such as Branson, MO, Washington, D.C., and even New York City.

Mr. and Mrs. Hodge are survived by their children, John Maxie Hodge and wife Lucia of Collinsville, MS, and Vicki Lynn Freeny and husband Reid of Clinton, MS. They are also survived by their grandchildren, Sonya Barber and husband Steve, Greg Hodge and wife Ashley, Brad Freeny and wife Britney, Olivia Harris and husband Justin, and Nicole Banks and husband Micheal, and great-grandchildren, Steven Barber, Seth Barber, Mason Hodge, Mary Peyton Hodge, Campbell Hodge, Eleanor Freeny, Cooper Harris, and Anna-Lucia Harris.

Mr. Hodge is survived by his sisters, Marie Canton, Mildred Parker, Martha Ann Dalton, and Willie Frank Vaughn, his brother, Pat Hodge, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Lucille Hodge, his sisters, Mary Mize, Thelma Wade, and Irene Seal, and brothers, Dan Hodge, MJ Hodge, and Jack Hodge.

Mrs. Hodge is preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Sallie McCaskill, and her brother, John McCaskill. She is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 11 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and Wednesday, June 12 from 9:00am to 10:00am at Wright & Ferguson in Clinton, MS. Services will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, June 12 with graveside service to follow at 2:30pm at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Scooba, MS.
