Charles E. Ivy, 85, passed away March 1, 2014 at his home in Tylertown, MS. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean Cooper Ivy; his daughter, Pat Lyon and husband, Rick, of Tylertown, MS; his daughter, Debbie Ivy of New Orleans, LA; his son, Ronnie Ivy and wife, Ruth, of Tylertown, MS. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Ashley Norman, and husband, Jeremiah, of Summit, MS; Jason and Chris Ivy of Tylertown, MS.; Olivia Lyon of Abita Springs, LA; and his two beloved great-grandchildren, Brennan and Steele Norman of Summit, MS. He is survived by one brother, O.C. "Shorty" Ivy and wife, Hazel of Anguilla, MS as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles was born June 21, 1928 in Sturgis, MS. He was graduated from Anguilla High School in 1946 and joined the U.S. Navy the following Monday, serving in the Aleutian Islands until 1948. His military service afforded him the opportunity to attend college on the GI Bill, and he earned his B.A. degree from Mississippi College in 1951. After graduation, he began a teaching/coaching career which included Mississippi high schools at Walnut, Brandon, and Aberdeen.

In 1956, Charles began a successful career in the insurance business by accepting a position with Farm Bureau in Tylertown, MS. After several years and a transfer to Macon, Georgia, he chose to return to Walthall County in 1963. He was hired as an agent for the Lamar Life Insurance Company in Jackson, MS, with which he spent the remainder of his career. He retired in 2006 at the age of 78.

Charles attained the prestigious Chartered Life Underwriter (C.L.U.) designation, the highest level of achievement in the life insurance business. He also had the distinction of becoming a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Round Table, recognized internationally as the standard for excellence in both productivity and sales.

Charles was a very active member of Mesa Baptist Church in Tylertown, MS, where he held various positions including Chairman of the Deacons, Sunday School teacher, and most notably, music director for 38 years.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Mesa Baptist Church with Reverend Joe Blackwell officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 till 8 P.M. on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Capps Funeral Home and at Mesa Baptist Church from 10 A.M. until service time at 11 on Monday. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
