Christy Baker-Annis Obituary
Christy Adele Ball Baker-Annis

Tallahassee, FL

Christy Baker-Annis, 70, retired psychological specialist at Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, FL, passed away suddenly but peacefully Thursday, September 19 at home in Tallahassee, FL.

Chris was born October 18, 1942, in Grenada Mississippi. She was a talented artist and in her teens and twenties her paintings won numerous awards. She was a graduate of John Rundle High School, Holmes Junior College, and the University of Mississippi, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and a master's degree in Archaeology. She later earned another master's degree in psychology, at Augusta State University, Augusta, GA.

During the late 1960s through the early 1980s Chris was a member of archaeological excavation teams in Britain, led the Mississippi archaeological field survey of sites proposed for roads and bridges in the Jackson area, and managed a group home for mentally handicapped children in Pennsylvania. The capstone of her professional career was as psychological specialist for 21 years in the Forensic Service of Florida State Hospital Chattahoochee, FL.

Chris was a person of broad interests beside her family and FSH, most prominently yoga, vegetarian cooking, jogging, reading, professional tennis, anything to do with Ole Miss, gardening, nature, and a certain British time traveling Doctor. Her interest in cultures and history led her to travel literally around the world with her husband in tow and often with her children, who were elementary school age when she introduced them to France, England, Egypt, Greece and Turkey.

Chris is survived by her husband of 31 years, Dr. Larry Annis; the lights of her life, her wonderful daughters, Loren Adele MacNeill Annis and Catherine Laurel Annis; her sisters, Cathy Ball Ward of Mendenhall, Mississippi, and Judy Key Clark of Greenwood, Mississippi; her brother, Allen Chris Ball, of Howard, Colorado; numerous in-laws, nephews and nieces; and the family puppies and kitties, Sadie, Sabelle, Lawli and Luna. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo Chris Ball and Marjorie Brown Ball Key of Grenada, her step-father Troy Key, and her first husband, Bill Baker of Horn Lake, MS.

Christy was a kind and caring mother, wife sister, and friend. She looked at life as an adventure to be lived to the fullest. We will miss Christy's smiles, laughter, and boundless energy. We will carry her forever in our minds and hearts.

A memorial service was held September 22 at Culley's Meadow Woods Funeral Home in Tallahassee, FL.
