David S. Butler, Sr., of Jackson, MS passed away peacefully on July 31, 2012 surrounded by his family. Mr. Butler was 73.
Visitation is at Wright Ferguson Funeral Home, High Street, from 9 AM until 11 AM on Friday, August 3, 2012, with services at 11 AM in the chapel.
Mr. Butler, a native of Meridian, MS, moved to Jackson with his young family in 1968. He began his practice of Consulting Engineering in 1972 followed by the eventual establishment of Engineering Resource Group, Inc. He was a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and was honored to be the International President from 1989 - 1990.
Additionally, Mr. Butler served as Chairman of the Board of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra in 1997, served several terms on the Board of Directors of Gateway Rescue Mission. He also served as Scoutmaster and in other volunteer capacities with the Boy Scouts of America.
An Episcopalian for 30 years, Mr. Butler was active with the Men's Vestry. At the time of his death, he was a communicant of St. Stephen's Reformed Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 50 years Sharon Daggett Butler; his son David S. Butler, Jr. (Barbara), daughters Leigh Sevil (Philip), and Missie Broyles (Jim); grandchildren Drew Butler, Olivia Sevil, Ben Butler, Jake Sevil, and Abby Butler.
