Dorothy Veltri Ulrich, 98, passed away peacefully March 19, 2013 at St. Catherine's Village where she had lived seventeen years. She was a dear friend to so many there, always writing letters of encouragement and sending cards.
She was born June 21, 1914 in Lorain Co., Brighton Village, Ohio to Christopher Andrew and Mary Katherine Veltri. She was one of seven daughters (all now deceased).
She married Austin Alexander Johnston in 1946 and their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Dawn and Kathy. Dorothy was widowed in 1962. She later married George "Starr" Ulrich and they lived in Del Mar, CA. until moving to St. Catherine's Retirement Village thirty-four years later.
Dorothy was very active in the Del Mar Chamber of Commerce and directly involved with decisions related to the growth of the young city.
She worked primarily in electronic aerospace manufacturing. During retirement she enjoyed making beautiful quilts, collecting antiques and was an avid reader. She was again widowed in 1999.
Dorothy loved her family dearly, faithfully prayed for them, and took great pride in their many accomplishments. She is survived by her two daughters, Dawn Perkins, (Norman) of Jackson, MS., and Kathy Berg, (Tom) of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA., five grandsons, Thomas Berg, Jr., (Tina), Norman Perkins, Jr., (Jenny), John Perkins, (Robyn), Lance Perkins (Cydney), and Robert Perkins (Amy), and 12 great grandchildren.
Dorothy was in Siena 1 at St. Catherine's for the past five years. She was attended by innumerable kind, competent, and caring individuals. Her family extends their heartfelt thanks to them all.
