Earl B. Brand
Earl B. Brand, 87, passed away at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, after a short battle with cancer. Until his retirement from Coahoma Electric Power Association, he was a lifelong resident of Coahoma County. At seventeen he joined the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He celebrated his eighteenth birthday during the battle of Okinawa. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Church in Clarksdale, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and various hunting clubs in Coahoma County. He loved his large and extended family and was loved by all.
He leaves his wife of sixty-three years, Evelyn Lewis Brand of Brandon, MS; his son, Earl B. Brand, Jr., of Brandon, MS; his daughters, Margaret Brand Hughes, Carole Brand Watson (Kevin) and Kathy Brand Young (Donnie), all of Madison, MS; his grandchildren, Heather Hughes Rush (Shaun), Anna Hughes Miranda, William Spencer Young and Allison Kathleen Young; his great-grandchildren, Caleb Rush, Riley Miranda and Cody Rush; his brother, James L. Brand (Annette); his sisters, Nina B. Young, Donnie B. Brown and Alice B. Douglas (Richard); his sister-in-law, Rosemary Bailey and many nieces, nephews and their children.
He is predeceased by his parents, James L. and Beulah B. Brand; his brothers, Wayne Brand and Rex Brand; his sisters, Maye Bettye Hunt, Blanche Dement, Inez Hardy, Esther Maddox and Hilda Tenhet; his brother-in law, Clarence "Bunk" Lewis and sister-in-laws, Agnes Terney and Millicent Rawlings.
Services will be held in Clarksdale, MS, on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home with graveside services at Oakridge Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00, a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00, a.m. Graveside services will be held immediately afterward.
