Mr. Price was born to John Henry Price, Sr. and Mary Sheedy Price on April 29, 1926 in Indianola, MS. After graduation from Indianola High School in 1943, he entered Mississippi State University. His education there was cut short due to the war when he joined the army and entered the Army Specialized Training Program. When the ASTP program was terminated at the end of 1944, he became an infantryman and was shipped to Europe and assigned to the 71st Infantry Division. After having seen considerable action across Europe, Fred was in the group that raced ahead and prevented the Russians from entering Vienna, Austria.
By the time he had completed his tour of duty in Europe, including several months in the army of occupation, Fred had changed his career plans from that of an aeronautical engineer to that of a commercial artist. Since early childhood he demonstrated a love of and an unusual talent for drawing. When he returned to the states and was discharged from the army, he enrolled in Memphis Academy of Arts to prepare for the career which would follow in commercial art and advertising.
He began his career working for Godwin Marks Advertising Agency in Jackson, MS and later moved to the Lamar Advertising Company in Memphis, TN. After a few years, he started a series of his own businesses in advertising, commercial art, graphic design and printing culminating in his most recent business, Graphicom, retiring in 1992.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Verna Smith Price, who was the mother of his children. Fred is survived by his wife Dorothy Bussell Price of Byhalia, MS; a son, Fred G. Price, Jr. (Kim) and their two daughters, Kirsten and Katie, of Collierville, TN; a daughter, Patricia Ann Price Dreve, of Memphis, TN, and her five children, Charlie, April, Nicholas, Jasper, and Anna; a sister, Mary Etta Price, of Indianola, MS; a brother, John Henry Price, Jr. (Norma) of Jackson, MS and their two children, Dianne Price Knowles (Glenn) and their two daughters, Alexandra and Haven of Boston, MA, and David N.
