Hayden Eugene Ashley, 87, of Jackson, MS, was born on September 25, 1925, and shed his earthly body on the 28th day of February, 2013 and met his Savior, Jesus Christ in heaven. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 4-6 P.M. at Lakewood Memorial Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral services on Monday, March 4th at 10:00 A.M. with burial following at Lakewood Memorial Garden.

Hayden is survived by his wife Maxine Dorman Ashley of sixty-seven years; daughter, Glenda Robinson (Dan) of Clinton; son Ron Ashley (Lynn) of Byram; five granddaughters, Wendy Kane (Robert) of Clinton, Rhonda McCollum of Nashville, TN, Holly Humphreys (David) of Yazoo City, Angela Harvey (Les) of Byram, and Jennifer Wharton (Chris) of Byram along with 10 great-grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents Jessie Ashley and Lula Mae Hammond Ashley and brother Floyd Ashley and sister Pauline Guy.

Hayden was raised in and around the Jackson area. As a youth, he was a sports lover and was a standout basketball player. He answered his nation's call for volunteers at the outbreak of World War II. He served a tour of duty in the US Navy; he saw forward duty in the region of Guadal Canal attached to a Marine division. He was honorably discharged and returned to Jackson, Mississippi, soon thereafter. Hayden spent forty-three years in the service to Southern Bell as a cable splicer and later as a construction supervisor in the Lynch Street office. He was a faithful Christian and member of Relate Church in Byram, devoted husband, patient father, loving grandfather, faithful friend, and an honest man of the highest order. He left a lasting mark on all who had the privilege to have known him.
