Mary Ella Pate Tyson
Mary Ella Pate Tyson died on October 30 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Mississippi following a two year illness with breast cancer. Mrs. Tyson was born May 9, 1924 in Carrollton, Alabama and was 89 years old. She is preceded in death by her parents Harvey A. Pate and Nola Ann (Thrasher) Pate, sisters Clara Opal Hawkins and Maureen Arceneaux, brother, James Pate, her husband Samuel Franklin Tyson, daughters Mary Sue (infant) and Janis Ruth Tyson Kisner. She is survived by her sister Annie Mae Ainsworth of Clarksdale, her three sons Robert Franklin Tyson of Texas, James Foster Tyson (Dianne) of Texas, Charles Douglas Tyson (Peggy) of Merigold, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Mrs. Tyson lived the first 60 years of her life mostly in the Mississippi Delta as a homemaker and sharecroppers wife. She loved to sew and decorate and made a comfortable home where ever her family farmed. She created her own patterns for home furnishings and clothing for her children and many friends. She was an inventive cook and made many a tasty meal of the most basic ingredients. At the age of 60 Mrs. Tyson traveled to the west living in Colorado and New Mexico before returning home to Mississippi at the age of 80. She lived an independent life believing in hard work and endurance. Mrs. Tyson will be at buried beside her husband at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2013 in Lakewood Memorial Cemetery in Jackson, MS. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Ministries 450 Towne Center Blvd. Ridgeland, MS 39157.
