Robert G. Anderson
Dr. Robert G. Anderson of Starkville died November 10, 2013. He was born on December 4, 1930 in Denver, Colorado to Carl and Rae Dettelbach Anderson.
He received a BA degree from Northern Colorado University, a Masters Degree from Colorado State College of Education in Greeley and a PhD from the University of Missouri.
As a shiny new PhD, Bob came to Mississippi State University and was the first hire in the new Department of Communication. He particularly enjoyed broadcasting and took a Sabbatical to the West Coast to broaden his knowledge about radio broadcasting. He returned to Mississippi State and took over the broadcast concentration, laying a solid foundation and expanding the department. He ran the radio station on the MSU campus for many years. In 1993, Bob was granted the status of Professor Emeritus of Communication.
Bob was a founding member, driving force and treasurer of the Starkville Community Theater. The American Association of Community Theatre honored him with a special recognition award for Contributions to Community Theater.
He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection and shared his communication skills with Lay Readers and Lay Eucharistic Ministers.
Bob loved all things entertaining. He loved books, movies, theater and sports. He was especially proud of his service as a Marine in the Korean War and, this year, his beloved Denver Broncos.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Eleanor Anderson, his parents and a brother and a sister.
His sister-in-law Ruby Jean Boxley and numerous nieces and nephew survive him.
Services will be at 11:00 am Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection or The Starkville Community Theater.
