W. L. Berry
One of "The Greatest Generation," W. L. Berry of Hazlehurst, passed away on June 29, 2013. He was 93. W. L. was born in Georgetown, MS, the son of Willie E. and Lelia Berry, and was a graduate of Georgetown High School. He served in the U. S. Army Quartermaster Service in the European theater, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his discharge he married Marguerite Little and began his career in the oil refinery business, working for Texaco, Gulf Oil, and Amarada Hess in California and Mississippi.
W. L. was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Marguerite, a sister, Myrna Berry Barbour, and a daughter-in-law, Graydene Berry. He is survived by sons, Bill (Janet) and Mike and daughter Becki Cooper (Walter), seven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Ona Ward.
The family would like to thank the VA Hospice in Jackson for their excellent care and kindness toward W. L. Visitation will be at Stringer Funeral Home in Hazlehurst on Monday, July 1, at 10am with a graveside service following at the Georgetown Cemetery.
