Roy Clifton Bratton, Sr., 85, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2010 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.
Mr. Bratton was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Juanita Baham Bratton; his parents, William Henderson Bratton and Fanie Arbuckle Bratton; sisters Gert Whitten, Ruby Simmons, and Essie McGarrity; brothers Lee Bratton, Charlie Bratton, Crip Bratton, John Bratton, and Jonah Bratton.
Mr. Bratton is survived by son Roy Clifton "Cliff" Bratton, Jr. (Debra) of Germantown, Tennessee; daughter Mary Lea Nations (Ricky) of Clinton, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Emily Nations, Will Nations, and Meagan Bratton; a brother, Eugene Bratton of Grenada; and a sister, Irene McMahan of Tupelo. Mr. Bratton also had a very special and close relationship with his niece, Peggy Sue Barnett of Marietta, Georgia.
Mr. Bratton was born on April 9, 1925 in Yalobusha County. He was a long-time resident of Jackson, Mississippi. He was a graduate of Draughn's Business College. He worked for DeSoto Furniture Company (formerly MPI) in many capacities for 35 years until the plant was closed in 1982. He then worked as a car salesman for 17 years at Howard Wilson Chrysler-Plymouth on Highway 80 and later Lakeland Drive, retiring in 2001 to care for his wife.
Mr. Bratton was a member of Alta Woods Baptist Church for 45 years. He also served as a deacon at West Jackson Baptist Church. He was a member of the Forest Hill Masonic Lodge.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 28th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Monday, November 29th at 1:00 pm at Wright & Ferguson Clinton, 106 Cynthia Street, Clinton, Mississippi. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday at Wright & Ferguson Clinton Chapel.
The family would like to extend a very special note of gratitude to personal caregivers who were with Mr. Bratton during his recent 3-month illness: Lillian Jackson, Marion Avery, Louise Patton, Leroy Perry, Patsy Bryant, Linda Moore, Patricia Preston, Alberta Payton, Heather Johnson, Virgie Muriel, and Vina Burkett. Thanks to the staff of Deaconess HomeCare and especially Linda Byrd, Robin Creel, and Quon Franklin. A special note of thanks is offered to Mrs. Lillian Jackson who served Mr. Bratton constantly and faithfully throughout the past three months.
Honorary pallbearers are George Mason, William Tanner, Eugene Bratton, Billy McMahan, Boots Rives, and George Weeks
