Fernita Mayberry Thompson, 101, passed away Monday, February 17, 2014 at Highland Home. Funeral services will be 3:00pm Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland, preceded by visitation at 2:00pm. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park.

She was born to parents, Herman and Ethel Mayberry in Lockwood, MO on September 17, 1912. She was preceded in death by her husband David Lowe Thompson and lived most of her life in Belzoni, MS, before moving to Jackson in 1965.

She was a former member of both Riverside Methodist Church and later St. Luke's United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for adults and children, and a women's society Bible teacher. She was preceded in death by Lowe, her husband; parents; brothers, Otis, Kenneth, and Herbert. Survivors include her daughter, Maxine Goodwin (Joe); grandson, David Goodwin (Jordan); granddaughter, Ginger Gage (William); great-grandchildren, Parks, Pierce, Travis, Spencer, Logan, and Will; and sitter, Diane Bennett.
