James Wesley Norton. 81, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Pleasant Ridge Pentecostal Church in Wesson with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6PM to 8 PM Friday at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland and will resume at 9:00 AM Saturday at the church. James was born on March 6, 1932, in Wesson, the son of the late Joe Robert Norton and Mary Ollie Norton. He was reared in Lincoln County of a farm near Wesson. James served his county in the USAF during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in England where he was in charge of the Officers Mess. For his service he was awarded the National Defense Medal. After receiving his honorable discharge, James attended the University of Maryland. He returned to Jackson where he owned and operated a restaurant and recreation business. James was also involved in real estate, buying and selling houses. He moved to Wesson to care for family members before returning to Jackson. He was a charter member of Faith Tabernacle of Florence where he served as the piano player. He is survived by sisters, Ruthie Geneva Plunkett of Pleasant Hills, MS; Charlotte Pearl Loper of Jackson; Frances Cleo Watkins of Wesson; brothers, Joe Norton, Jr. of Wesson; Jack Louis Norton of Wesson and numerous nieces and nephews.
