Gloria Young Green Kennedy, 83, died February 24, 2014 at River Oaks Hospital in Madison. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 20154 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Pearl with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the church. A private burial service will take place in Jessamine Cemetery at a later time. Gloria was born on April 11, 1930 in West Monroe, LA, the daughter of Bill and Allie Green. A graduate of Ouachita High School, she worked for Howard Brothers for many years. A resident of Ridgeland since the early 1990's, she was a longtime active and faithful member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Pearl. Gloria was an avid reader; her favorite pastime was reading her Bible, as well as working with prisoners and their families. She cherished spending time with her family and loved her pets. Gloria was proud to be second cousin by birth to US Senator and astronaut John Glenn and by marriage to President John F. Kennedy. She will be most remembered as a beloved wife, a loving mother, a devoted grandmother, a cherished sister and friend. She is survived by her husband; Dr. David Kennedy of Ridgeland, MS, Son; Jessie Hawthorn of Elizabeth, Colorado, Sisters; Juanita Giles of Redlands, California, Emily Urban of Richardson, Texas, and Glenora Lyford of Houston, Texas. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by a son Robert Richard James Hawthorn. Memorials may be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 110 College St, Pearl, MS 39208.
