Lemuel S. Kennedy


Mr. Lemuel Shelby Kennedy died on Friday April 4, 2014 in Jackson, Mississippi at the age of 87. He was born on June 22, 1926 in Cohay III, Smith County, Mississippi located 6 miles west of Raleigh, an area known for its turpentine and logging camps. He married the late Melba Jean Smith Kennedy of Sebastopol, Mississippi in 1950 and they lived together in Jackson, Mississippi.

He was a US Army Veteran assigned to the 9th Army Medical Corps, 161st Station Hospital in The Pacific Theater. After being honorably discharged from the US Army, he had a long time career with the Mississippi Department of Transportation where he retired in 1988.

In Jackson, Mississippi, he attended the First Baptist Church and was a member of the American Legion Post 112 and VFW and actively volunteered at the Veterans Administration Hospital for the last 20 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Lynn Kennedy Walworth of Florence, Mississippi and husband Gary Walworth, son Donald Keith Kennedy of Long Beach, California and husband Peter Drazba, Tonya Walworth Bishop and husband Curtis Bishop of New Orleans, Louisiana and great grandson Grayson Bishop and grandaughter Chloe Bishop. He is also survived by his brother William Paul Kennedy and wife Faye of Flowood, Mississsippi.

A visitation will be held at the Sebrell Funeral Home on Monday between 6 - 8 pm with a Tuesday morning visitation at 10:00 am with funeral services following at 11:00 am at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Jackson, Mississippi.
