Norma Dees Laird


Norma Dees Laird, 87, passed away on Saturday, April 12th, 2014 at University of Mississippi Medical Center. Visitation is from 3 PM to 5 PM Sunday, April 13th at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland and 10 AM Monday, April 14th at Christ United Methodist Church with a funeral service following at 11 AM. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Monday at Union Cemetery in Union, MS. Norma was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi on September 11, 1926. She was a resident of Union, Mississippi until 1975 when she moved to Jackson. A longtime employee of University of Mississippi Medical Center, she was Associate Registrar before retiring. After leaving UMMC, she worked for the legislature in the Senate Docket room and also served one session as secretary to the Senate President Pro Tem. She moved to Sunnybrook Retirement Home in 2011. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Willie Dees, her two brothers, Anse and George Dees; and her son, Robert Dees Laird. She is survived by her daughters, Paula (Hugh) Stubbs of Madison and Alice (Bucky) Murphy of Canton; six grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua and Paul Stubbs, and Camp (Sydney) and Bo (Emily) Murphy and Dees (Jody) Britt. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Gray and John Burke Murphy. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 6000 Old Canton Road, Jackson, MS 39206 or a .
