Marion Walber

1924 - 2014 Obituary Condolences Flowers
Marion Lucille Walber

Madison

Marion Lucille Walber, nee Weitekamp, died on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Born to the late Leo and Lucille Weitekamp on August 21, 1924, in Raymond, Illinois, she was raised on the family farm with 7 brothers and sisters. Marion moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1958 to pursue her secretarial career, and there she met the love of her life, Al Walber. They were married on June 13, 1959 and soon moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, for Al's job, and began their family. In 1972 the Walbers moved back to Wisconsin, where Marion worked in the West Bend public school system for many years as a teaching assistant for disabled students. Marion and Al were active in parish activities at St. Frances Cabrini and, later, Holy Angels Catholic Church, as well as the Knights of Columbus, enjoying many fish fries, bowling outings, and other festivities. Marion also enjoyed sewing, playing cards, baking, and being with family. In 2008 Al and Marion moved to St. Catherine's Village in Madison, Mississippi to be near family. They met many dear people in these past years at St. Catherine's, both friends and the caring staff. Marion was the best wife a man could ask for, and a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her family and friends will lovingly remember her for her sweet patience, humility, and great sense of humor. We will miss her, but we know she is happy in heaven with the family and friends that have gone before her. She is survived by her devoted husband, Al Walber, daughters LeAnn (Luke) Nealey (Ridgeland, Mississippi), and Jean (Jeff) Opitz (Saukville, Wisconsin); her beloved grandchildren, Melissa (Andrew) Meschke and Jacob Opitz; three siblings and four sisters-in-law, as well as many other relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial and interment will take place in West Bend, Wisconsin, with a memorial service to be held at St. Catherine's Village chapel, Madison, Mississippi, later this month. The family thanks the wonderful caregivers at St. Catherine's Village, St. Dominic's Hospital, and Dr. Gene Loper, for their care and concern for both Marion and Al. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Villa Angela, 715 N. 4th Street, Springfield, IL 62702 or Gallant Hearts Guide Dog Center, http://gallanthearts.org/.
