Lila Barbara Gray Tanner
Sugar Land, TX
Lila Barbara Gray Tanner (1923 - 2014), 91, of Sugar Land, TX, went to be with her LORD on April 30, 2014.
Lila was a proud, native Mississippian, born in Fulton, MS on February 3, 1923, to Claude and Veila Gray. She spent most of her days in her beloved home town of Pelahatchie, MS, where she met and married her sweetheart, G. K. "Buddy" Tanner, a 59 year marriage which produced 4 daughters. Side by side, Buddy and Lila ran the US Post Office for 30 years in Pelahatchie. She served the community in so many ways: on the Board of Alderman; in the Pelahatchie Garden Club, where she worked to beautify the community and share her love for flowers with others; and in so many other ways. She was also known for her wonderful cooking as well as being a loving mother who cared for her beloved Candy until her death in 1997. She was a lifetime member of the Morton Church of Christ where she taught Bible stories to her many Sunday School classes over the years. She had a beautiful singing voice, which could always be heard in worship.
Lila is preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Tanner; her daughter, Candace Ann Tanner; and her son-in-law, Jim Clarke. She is survived by her daughters, Pam Clarke of Sugar Land, TX; Siri Crider (Russ) of Aurora, CO; and Cindy McKinney (Jerry) of Missouri City, TX; grandchildren, Angel Allen (Greg) with great-grandsons Tanner, Tucker and Tate; Claire Redmond (Justin) with grandchildren Enzo and Chloe; Kyle Crider (Janet) with grandson Desmond; Jeremy McKinney (Maggie) with great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Courtney, and Olivia; and Kevin McKinney (Katy). She is missed already by all who have known her and love her. Her love for the LORD had a lasting impact on her family.
Visitation will be at the Morton Church of Christ on Sunday, May 4th, at 2:00 p.m. with services following there at 3:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Sunnybrook Children's Home, 222 Sunnybrook Road, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
