Thelma Harrell Chandler
Thelma Harrell Chandler, age 87, passed away on May 28, 2014 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will be Sunday, June 1, 2014 from 5-7 pm and Monday, June 2, 2014 from 9-11 am at Lakewood Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11 am at Lakewood Memorial Funeral Home. Mrs. Chandler's nephew, Paul Harrell, will officiate at the service. Mrs. Chandler was born April 21, 1927, in Leesburg, MS. She moved with her parents to Pisgah when she was 10 -years-old and graduated from Pisgah High School in 1946.
Moving to Jackson, she met and in 1948 married Steen Chandler. The marriage resulted in two sons and continued until Mr. Chandler's passing in 1989. Mrs. Chandler's working life included several years as a cosmetologist at Fondren's Cosmetology School and Salon in Jackson, and several years as a bartender for Dobb's House at Jackson International Airport. She enjoyed meeting and socializing with others. She was an avid reader. Mrs. Chandler had a green thumb and always enjoyed plants around her home. In her later years she added travel to her interests.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents Henry and Florence Harrell, and her brothers and sisters, Agnes Bates, Edward Harrell, Sig Moore, A.D. Harrell, and Jessie Harrell. Mrs. Chandler is survived by her sons Mike Chandler of Fultondale, AL, and Ric Chandler of Fulton, MS, her grandchildren Michael Ikeda-Chandler of Oxford, MS, and Rebecca Ikeda-Chandler of Yakima, WA, several nieces and nephews, and many wonderful friends.
