Frances French

Jackson, MS

Frances Sue French, 86, peacefully left this earth to be with her Lord on June 5, 2014. She lived at Ridgeland Pointe, in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will be Sunday, June 8, 2014, at 1:00 at First Baptist Church Chapel in Jackson, with the funeral service starting at 1:15. Burial will be at Mendenhall Cemetery beside her mother and father in Mendenhall, MS after the service in Jackson.

Frances was born on August 20, 1927, in Mendenhall, MS to the late J.C. and Sue French. As a graduate of Mendenhall High School, she went on to obtain a Library Science degree from Blue Mountain College. Frances continued her education at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where she received her Master's degree in Library Science. Upon graduation, she began her career working for the Jackson Public Library System and became an active member of First Baptist Church. She later moved to Memphis and worked for the Memphis/Shelby County Library System for a number of years. Upon retirement, Frances returned to Jackson where she lived for 22 years.

Frances had a devoted interest in the Royal Family of England. She had an extensive knowledge of the Royal Family and their genealogy and often gave programs for the public on this subject. She was a world traveler having visited over 25 countries. Other interests were volunteering in her community. Frances served a number of years as a docent at the Eudora Welty House and Gardens.

One of her friends from church had this to say, "When I think of Miss Frances, I saw her as a woman of great faith. She was committed to the Lord and showed her commitment through her faithful participation in the ministries of First Baptist Jackson. She had a dry sense of humor that was a part of her unique personality." We will all miss her presence here, but we know that she has received a joyous welcome in heaven. We have much to be thankful for.

In lieu of flowers, her friends from her church family both in Memphis and Jackson have requested that memorials may be made to FBC/Mission First (P.O. Box 250, Jackson, MS 39205), Eudora Welty Library (300 N State St, Jackson, MS 39201), or The Northside Library (807 E Northside Dr, Jackson, MS 39206).
