Charles Richard Smith, 70, was born July 15, 1943 in Mansfield, Ohio to Richard C. and Mary E. Smith. He passed away at his home June 15, 2014.

Charles retired from UMMC in 2010. He was an active member of First Baptist Jackson for over 40 years and a volunteer in the preschool ministry for 35 years where he taught the 5 year old class. His hobbies included photography, art, and genealogy. He was a past member of the Jackson Jaycees.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, Richard Carl Smith; and brother, Eugene Smith.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Smith of Meridian; sisters, Phyllis Goelz of Fleming Island, FL and Alice Stapler of Selma, AL; brother, Melvin "Smitty" Smith of Pearl; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 5 - 8pm at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2pm in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Meridian, MS.
