Ruth Butler Brown, the second of five children, was born February 18, 1924, in Hazlehurst, MS, to the late Mariah Elizabeth Boyd Butler and Dink Butler. She passed away on Monday, July 28, 2014, at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland, MS. Mrs. Brown was married to the late Moses Kipling Brown; six children were born to this union. She was baptized in the Catholic faith at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in 1942; she has been a member at Christ the King Catholic Church since 1952.

Her immediate survivors are two daughters, Dorothy Brown Green of Jackson, MS, and Doris Thomas of Chicago, IL; two sons, Raphael E. Brown (Cheryl) of Hampton, VA, and Jeffrey G. Brown (Lourdes) of Virginia Beach, VA; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a sister.

Service for Mrs. Brown is 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Christ the King Catholic Church (2303 John R. Lynch St., Jackson, MS), with visitation from 1 - 7 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2014, at Lakeover Funeral Home.
