John R. Chaffin, 90, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at St. Catherine's Village in Madison.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Marylee Chaffin and two sons, John Roy (Tony) Chaffin, Jr. and his wife, Julia of Sandhill and Richard Lee Chaffin and his wife, Royce of Tuscaloosa, AL. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, John Roy Chaffin, III (Gina) of Navarre, FL, Richard Elliot Chaffin of Germany, Christin Chaffin Givhan (Scott) of Limassol, Cypress, Woodley Chaffin Habgood (Rob) of Richmond, VA, Stokely Chaffin of Los Angeles, CA, Lindsey Coward of Brandon, and Rebecca Coward of Flowood; and nine great-grandchildren.
John was born in Holtville, CA, and spent his life in the farming industry in California, moving to Sandhill, MS in 1962, continuing in cotton and cattle at first and then growing corn, wheat and soy beans on his section of land in Sandhill.
John was beloved by all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a strong exemplary patriarch for his family. He will be missed every day.
Visitation will be Friday, November 12, 2010, from 9:30 am until memorial services at 10 am at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Sandhill. Breeland Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
