James Topp, Sr.


James "Jim" Shelby Topp, Sr., age 73, died April 2, 2011 at his residence in Brandon. A funeral service celebrating his life will be at 2pm Wednesday April 6, 2011 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home with a visitation to be held from 11am until 2pm. Interment will follow in Natchez Trace Memorial Park after cremation.

Mr. Topp was born in Jackson, MS. He is the son of the late Shelby Mayor Topp and the late Alice McCommon Topp. A U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he became self employed and worked in the steel industry. He was a Scottish Rite, York Rite Mason and member of the Shriners his whole adult life, becoming Potentate of the Hamasa Shrine in 1978. His hobbies included flat bottom boat racing and piloting aircraft for more than 30 Years. He dedicated his life to his beloved wife and children.

Mr. Topp is survived by his wife of 43 years, Janice G. Topp of Brandon; children, James Topp, Jr. of Clinton, Tracy Bowlin of Brandon, John Topp of Seattle, WA. and George McKay of Clinton; grandchildren, Bobby Bowlin, Jr., James Topp, III, London Topp, Jenna McKay, Leanna McKay, Steven Smith and Fauna Asp; and sister, Mary Jane Greene of Greensboro, N.C. In addition to his parents, Mr. Topp is preceded in death by his sisters, Evelyn McPherson and Vivian LaCoste.
