Joseph Carroll Loper, 88, died on Thursday May 26, 2011. Funeral services will be held 1:00pm Wednesday June 1, 2011 at St. Richards Catholic church. With visitation from 12:00noon till service time. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Carroll was born in Jackson on March 13, 1923 to May Shaughnessy and Eugene Lafayette Loper. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1941 and subsequently earned his Navy wings at the Pensacola NAS in June of 1943. He served as a Naval aviator in the final phase of the North Africa Campaign of WWII reaching the rank of Lieutenant. He was forever indebted to the GI Bill and the education it afforded him, an MBA from the University of Denver. Returning to Jackson in 1952, he operated his own insurance agency until retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Butler Loper and brothers, Eugene Loper, Brock Loper, Richard Loper, Frank Loper, and Bill Loper. Surviving children are Shaughn Loper, Amy Loper, Megan Loper, Brian Loper, Madeline Daley, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
