R. Julian Allen, III


R. Julian Allen, III, 65, died Wednesday November 7, 2012 at University of Arkansas Medical Center. Funeral services will be Friday, November 9, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with Rev. Taylor Moore and Rev. Penny Sisson officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery with a visitation immediately following the graveside service at the cemetery. Waller Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Born in Greenwood, MS on June 23, 1947 to Robert Julian Allen, Jr. and Shirley Perry Allen, he lived most of his life in Indianola, MS. Mr. Allen attended the University of Mississippi where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. In 1970, he joined his father's construction company. He went on to become president of Constructor's Inc., of Fayetteville, TN in 1972 and founder of Allen Corporation, general contractors, in 1976. In 1980, Mr. Allen was co-founder, president and chairman of Delta Pride Catfish and served on the board and as vice-president of Delta Western Feeds for many years. Mr. Allen was very active in the growth of the catfish industry in the delta, having served two terms as president and two terms as chairman of Catfish Farmers of America. His work allowed him to meet with seafood executives worldwide. He served on the board of Community Bank in Indianola as well as in the Mississippi National Guard, Indianola Unit, from 1966-1972. Mr. Allen's lifelong love of flying allowed him to utilize private aviation for his various business endeavors. He was founder and partner in R.J. Allen and Associates, Inc., developers and construction managers in Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida and Texas. He enjoyed starting companies in a broad range of fields including fitness centers, land mitigation banking, property management, and senior housing throughout the Southeastern United States. Mr. Allen had an especially strong interest in giving young people opportunities to manage or own their own business. His favorite activities involved his family and riding Tennessee Walking Horses. Mr. Allen was a past member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Indianola and a current member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Oxford. He was a true believer in Jesus Christ and always said "If today is my last day, it's been a great day!"

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Keach Allen of Oxford, MS; three daughters, Kimberly Keach Allen and her husband, Chip of Jackson, TN, Katherine Allen Beard and her husband, Brad of Oxford and Karen Allen Blackburn and her husband, David of Oxford; his mother, Shirley Perry Allen of Birmingham, AL (formerly of Indianola, MS); two brothers, Sidney Allen of Jackson, MS and Meredith Allen of Greenwood, MS; one sister, Shirley Anne Stringfellow of Birmingham, AL; and six grandchildren.
