Lu Lee, Swimming Instructor/Life Saver, Friend, Mother and Grandmother extraordinaire, died peacefully surrounded by her children on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Visitation is Friday from 4:30pm to 8:00pm at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison and again 1 hour prior to the Saturday Celebration of Life Service at 10:00am at St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Madison. Interment will follow in Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery. Lu was born on October 21, 1934 in Jackson, Mississippi to Bessie Burnham Bullock and Clarence Bullock. She graduated from Central High School and then graduated from MSCW earning a B.A. in Physical Education. She taught Physical Education at Jackson Academy for many years and began her life-long dream of teaching children water survival skills.She was an active member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, serving on many committees. Her greatest pleasure besides spending time with her children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren was teaching all of her students to swim, which she has done for over 50 years. She wrote and produced, with the help of Rob Reiner (whose children she also taught) of Castle Rock Entertainment, her video "Sink or Swim" which won a Telly Award. She was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and incredible friend and mentor to so many and will be deeply and greatly missed by all who had the privilege to meet and know her. Her bravery, courage, strength, compassion, humor, and unbelievable outlook on life, and above all her unwavering faith and love for God, was second to none.
Lu was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney D. Lee Sr., DVM; her parents, Clarence and Bessie Bullock, brother C. Earl Bullock and sister, Bess Ann Bullock Davis.
Survivors include Daughters, Laurie Higuet of South Carolina, Tammy Vinson (Rick) of Madison, Melissa Barton Prim (Peter) of South Carolina, Son, Rodney D. Lee, Jr. of Pearl, Brother, Burnham Bullock (Linda) of Arizona; grandchildren, Joshua Butler (Rhonda), J.R. Elam, Hunter, Dallas and Hayley Higuet; Michael (Alyssa), Ryan and Casey Reeves; Gabrielle and Michael Vinson; Andrew (Jenna), David, Bryan and Matthew Barton; Madeline Prim; and Chase Lee; great grandchildren Jordan, Katelyn and Kolby, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lu Lee's name to St. Matthews UMC of Madison, Mississippi; the Wounded Warrior Project, Cursillo, Feed the Children Charity, Crossroads Outreach Ministries in Madison and Blair Batson Children's Hospital.
