Jean Holcomb Turner, 93, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Born on December 31, 1918 in Quitman, Mississippi to Sunshine Kirkland and William Edgar Holcomb, Jean and her family moved to Tupelo and then to Hattiesburg, MS; where her father became president of what is now William and Carey University. After graduating from Hattiesburg High School, Jean married her high school sweetheart, Richard C. Turner, Jr. in 1937. They lived happily together in Hattiesburg until Richard died in 1997. In 2008, Jean moved to St. Catherine's Village in Madison, Mississippi.

Jean was preceded in death an infant son Joe and sister, Betty Holcomb Bass. She is survived by her son Richard C. Turner, III (Dick) and his wife, Patsy; her grandsons Richard K. Turner and Robert P. Turner both of Boise, Idaho; her sister, Abby Jones of Clinton; and her brother, William Edgar Holcomb, Jr., and his wife Betsy of Oxford. She is also survived her sister -in-laws, Jean Stockton of Jackson, Peggy Hutton of Nashville, TN; Marty Herrin, Rosemary Meador and Mary Jeanne Turner of Hattiesburg.

A Requiem Eucharist will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral at 11 am Saturday, December 8, 2012. The family will welcome visitors in St. Francis Hall at 10 am. Interment will follow at 3:00 pm at Roseland Park Cemetery on West Seventh Street in Hattiesburg.
