Lester Melvin Moore, 74, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko, MS Funeral services will be held Friday, January 11, 2013 at Southern Funeral Home in Lexington, MS at 11:30 am. Visitation will be held from 10 am until the service time. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington, MS.
Melvin was born on July 15, 1938. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1957 and from Mississippi State University in 1962. He also served with the Mississippi National Guard. He was employed with Illinois Central Gulf, later known as Mid South Railroad for 26 years. Melvin was an avid hunter; mainly quail and deer hunting, and loved to share hunting stories with his family and friends. Woodworking was another hobby that he enjoyed, mainly making colorful bludbird houses.
Melvin is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Ruby Smith Moore; 3 sons, Mark Moore (Dana) of Oxford, MS, Brian Moore, (Karen) of Clinton, MS and Bruce Moore,(Jennifer) of Vardaman, MS and 6 grandchildren, James Marcus, Caleb, Bryson, Keatan, Riley and Logan Moore and sisters, Eloise Alderman and Edith Aldridge of Lexington, MS; Minette Skinner of Jackson, MS; Billie Ruth Hubbert, (James) of Jasper, Al and Loretta Wilson (James) of Beaumont, CA.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, N.L. Moore and Ruth Moore, his brother, Dutch Moore and his sister, Jean Marshall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 237, Lexington, MS 39095.
