Edith Callahan

Edith Young Callahan was the fifth child to Mr. Minyard Young, Sr. and Mrs. Annie Moore Young. She was born October 30, 1924 in Crystal Springs, MS. On October 5, 1950, Edith married her lifelong love, Mr. William Callahan there were no children born in this matrimony.

At an early age, Edith accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior while attending Miller Springs, M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. H.P. Jackson. She was a faithful usher and served as the church's secretary for many years until her health began to fail. She began her education in Crystal Springs, MS. She graduated from Lanier High School in Jackson, MS. She received her B.S. at Jackson College now known as Jackson State University. She was devoted to teaching for 42 years in Crystal Springs. She was a believer of teaching children life skills. Edith was one of the "old school' teachers.

She taught generations of families. She was well loved and respected by many. Edith began her teaching at Lowes Chapel Elementary School and then to Haltzclaw Elementary Jr. & Sr. High School. She completed her career of teaching at Crystal Springs Elementary Jr. High School. Edith was a faithful member with Heron of Jericho Court 48 in Crystal Springs, MS until her health began to fail.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Minyard and Mrs. Annie Young, Sr. and all of her siblings: Mr. Moses Young, Mrs. Juanita Smith, Mr. Minyard Young, Jr., Mrs. Mary McLaurin, Mr. K.C. Young and Mrs. Mattie Green.

She leaves to cherish her memories nine (9) nieces, three (3) nephews, a host of great nieces, great nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., Miller Springs M.B. Church in Crystal Springs, MS.
