Rose Brown Gregg
Rose Jeanette Brown Gregg, 83, died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Lafayette Springs Cemetery in Lafayette County.
Mrs. Gregg was born on March 5,1930, in Blue Springs, the daughter of the late William Boyd Brown and Rose Etta Garner Brown. Reared in the Lambert and Walnut, she attended the University of Southern Mississippi and earned her Dietician Management Certificate from the University of Florida. In 1947, she married her husband, Vernon Kipps Gregg. She began her career in food service at age 14, working in a soup kitchen on military base during World War II. Mrs. Gregg, residing in Clarksdale, began working for the Clarksdale City School System as the cafeteria manager before accepting a position at Northwest Regional Medical Center as a dietician. In 1985, she transferred to Jackson with Valley Foods and began working for Woodland Hills Baptist Academy. Mrs. Gregg retired from Valley Foods in 1997 after serving in both Philadelphia and Starkville, MS. She had resided in Clinton since 2006.
Mrs. Gregg enjoyed crocheting afghans for her family and friends and in her younger years she enjoyed ceramics. Mrs. Gregg was a glorious cook and was well known for her delicious divinity each Christmas. She was a member of Oak Hurst Baptist Church in Cleveland. Known as "Ninny" by her grandchildren, Mrs. Gregg cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will most be remembered as a loving mother and devoted grandmother.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Vernon Kipps Gregg, daughter, Barbara Gregg Linville and son, Vernon Kipps Gregg, Jr. (Sonny).
She is survived by daughter, Brenda Butler and husband Lynn of Clinton; daughter, Deborah Gregg Prowell and husband David of Boulder, CO; grandchildren, Rose Butler Hageman and husband Dean of Clinton; Walter David Prowell, IV, Margaret Rose Prowell and Elizabeth Roberts Prowell all of Boulder, CO; Jonathan Kremser of Florida; great grandchildren, Thomas and Ashton Ladner of Clinton, MS.
