Fred H. Washington Obituary
Fred Herbert Washington

Utica

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

Fred Herbert Washington was born in Utica, Mississippi on April 20, 1945 to the late Mr. Booker T. and Mrs. Ledora Harris Washington. He dedicated his life to Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church.

Fred received his early education in Hinds County Public Schools. He attended Hinds AHS and received his high school diploma. He later received an AA degree in machinery at Utica Junior College. He was gainfully employed by Vickers, Inc. where he worked for numerous years as a machinist. He also worked as a carpenter and an electrician. Fred was always repairing and renovating people's homes. He would always lend a helping hand to anyone in the community who needed him.

Fred married his high school sweetheart, Clementine Flagg. After her death, he married Phyllis Powell Moncure who preceded him in death. His parents, a son, Fran Joseph Stamps, his sisters and brothers, Betty Jean, Dora, Roy (Billy), Isria (Slick), and Ellis (Guy) preceded him in death.

Fred was a devoted father, brother, and friend to many. He never met a stranger, and always had a lending hand with a smile and some hilarious words. Fred loved people and the Lord.

The words of God found in James 4:14 delare, "Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away."

On Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, God came down from Heaven and plucked from His garden, a flower in full bloom. Fred entered a peaceful sleep awaiting the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

His legacy of love will live on through the life of his family: two sons, Fredrick Lofton, Jackson, MS and Adolf Moncure, Crystal Springs, MS; five daughters, Coasha Robinson, Jackson, MS; Lorran Broome (Shelby), Vicksburg, MS; Dominique and Courtney Washington, Hazlehurst, MS; Chantana Moncure Thompson, Crystal Springs, MS; thirteen grandchildren: Diamond, Shacoria, Caria, Shaquantin, Allen, Keynisa, Keyshawa, Lindsay, Cyaboasha, Jacynto, Michael, Mytrel, Shay; two sisters, Martha Coleman, Jackson, MS; Judy Washington, Utica, MS; two brothers, Booker T. Washington, Jr., Jackson, MS, and Jerry Washington, Jackson, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Homegoing celebration will be Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 1:00 p.m., Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church in Utica, MS. Visitation will be Friday, April 25, 2013 at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home from 8:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
