Robert David Sanders, III, was born October 6, 1973, in the old Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, the first child and only son of Robert David Sanders, Jr., and Mary Todd Sanders. His father and paternal grandmother smuggled a bottle of Blue Nun Liebfraumilch into the waiting room to await his delivery. He died August 7, 2013, after a lengthy struggle with depression. A visitation will be held in the Parish Hall of St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral, at the corner of Capitol and West Streets, beginning at 9:30 A.M. Monday, August 12, followed by a requiem eucharist in the church sanctuary at 11:00.
Robert attended school in Jackson and graduated from Mississippi College with a degree in accounting. He had completed substantial work toward an MBA at Mississippi College before his depression overwhelmed him. He worked with his father as property manager and bookkeeper. He had a keen interest in fast cars, body-building, and Lakers basketball, with many friendships built around those activities. He was predeceased by his four grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Sanders, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Porter, and by a favorite uncle, Bill Sanders. He is survived by his parents and two sisters, Cathy and Jillian Sanders, who loved him dearly. He is also survived by one niece, Kimber Sanders, numerous aunts and uncles, and a literal slew of cousins: first, first removed, second and so forth.
