Dan F. Crumpton, Jr.
Dan F. Crumpton Jr, 83, a retired farmer at Riverbend Farm, died May 9, 2014 at his home. Visitation is Monday May 12, 2014, 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church in Clarksdale, MS. Funeral services are 11:00 A.M. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Clarksdale, MS. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is handling the arrangements.
Dan was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. He served as Chairman of the Administrative Board several times and was on every committee of the church at one time or the other. He taught Sunday School for many years, both adult and children. Until he got sick, Dan unlocked the church every Sunday morning and made coffee for all the adult Sunday School classes. Several times Dan spoke at the Lenten Luncheon and Good Friday services.
Dan served four years in the U.S. Navy as a pilot during the Korean Conflict. He was a commissioner of the Yazoo MS. Delta Levee Board for 32 years, helped organize the Care Station and served on the First National Bank Advisory Board, Production Credit Association Board and the Lee Academy Board.
His hobbies include hunting, fishing, golf and snow skiing.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Lou "Doodle" Busby Crumpton, sons Dan Crumpton III (Esther) and Mark B. Crumpton (Darlene), daughter Kathy Crumpton Atkins (Randy) all of Clarksdale, sister Mary Eva Presley (Curt) of Oxford and grandchildren Jess Snyder, David Snyder, Christi Atkins, Lauren Atkins, Mary Fondren Atkins, Christina Casey Kitchens, Kevin Michael Casey, Cassie D. Casey Bowden, Olivia Grace Crumpton, "Bo" Crumpton, Chase Crumpton, Corey Crumpton and Luke Crumpton; and 6 great-grandchildren.
