Corey M. Jones of Dumont was born Jan. 1, 1948, and passed away in his sleep at his home in Dumont on Oct. 12, 2017.
He was born in New York, the son of Edgar M. and Mary E. (Robinson) Jones. He graduated from John Jay High School and then enlisted in the United States Army. He was a Vietnam veteran.
When he returned home, he went to college and graduated from SUNY with a business and geology major. He came to Colorado in the mid-1970s and worked on the Eisenhower-Johnson Tunnel on Interstate 70. He then went to work for the Apex, Climax and Henderson Mining Companies. While at the Henderson Mine, he switched to the maintenance department because he enjoyed welding and fabricating steel. It was a place where he could put his talents to work.
In many ways, Corey was a jack-of-all-trades. After retiring from the Henderson Mine, he went to work for the Casino Maintenance Department.
Corey was preceded in death by both of his parents and his younger brother, Kirby M. Jones.
He is survived by his sister, Martha J. Atwood of New York; his long-time friends Jerry Van Heesch and Paul "Willie" Wilson; and many dear friends and co-workers as well as his two beloved cats, Whiskers and Sunshine. Thank you to all those who were there for him as his health began to fail.
